Private incidents

Most incidents are visible to everyone in the workspace. A private incident is visible only to the people who need it. Use it for sensitive incidents, such as a security event or an incident involving a named customer, where you want a smaller group to see the title, timeline and discussion.

Who can see a private incident

  • The person who created it
  • The incident's commander
  • Responders who have been added to it, either individually or through a team
  • Workspace admins and owners

Everyone else does not see it in incident lists or on the incident page. A private incident is marked with a lock icon and a Private label.

Private incidents are also kept off the status page.

Create a private incident

When you declare an incident, tick Private incident in the Create Incident dialog. The dialog explains who will be able to see it: "Only you, the commander, responders you add, and admins can see it. Its chat channel is private too."

Chat channels are private too

If your workspace is connected to a chat tool, the incident's channel is created as a private channel as well, so the discussion stays with the same group. See Connect Slack and Connect Discord.

Change an incident's visibility

On the incident page, Make private or Make public is offered to people who are allowed to change it. If you do not see the option, you do not have permission to change that incident.

Making an incident public asks you to confirm first, because everyone in the workspace will then be able to see it.
